STANDING OVATION - The candle-lit ancient church of St Thomas a Becket provided an unforgettable concert of Music for an Autumn Evening.

The church was completely full as ten performers, both professional musicians and local artists, entertained visitors from far and wide.

Led and devised by Paul Emery, who also sang in the concert, the audience was treated to an intriguing programme.

Seven-year-old Izzy Labett recited with enormous confidence the stories of ‘The Hen’ and ‘The Fish’, which produced hilarious laughter from the audience. Thirteen-year-old Ben Pritchard sang beautifully, while Hope Backman accompanied him on the guitar.

Teenagers Natasha McMahon and Glenda Alloway played a movement from Bach’s Concerto for two violins.

Christine Jones had the audience roaring with laughter with her Joyce Grenfell and Pam Ayres impersonations and Alma Vaughan sang and acted to great amusement, songs from The Mikado with Paul Emery.

The concert pianist Helen Emery played amongst other things, one of Schubert’s Impromptus, with great emotion. However, the high spot was undoubtedly when the famous violinist George Ewart accompanied by Helen Emery, dazzled the audience with the brilliant Carmen Fantasy, which brought the audience to their feet with a standing ovation. It was a fitting climax to a memorable concert.
