Hereford Probus Three, book fair, RAF Hereford boy entrants, auction

PROBUS THREE - The highlight of the past month’s weekly programmes was the talk given by Jo Mary Stafford, based on the book Light in the Dust, an account of her childhood life in Walsall in the 1940s and 50s. Her talk and readings from the book initiated a very lively response from Probus members who were able to relate to many of her experiences.

As well as being a published author, Jo has also sold a number of her artistic works to a wide variety of prestigious art galleries. She lives quietly in Hereford.

Probus Three can thoroughly recommend her talk to any other club looking to enhance the quality of their visiting speakers.

Members are looking forward to May’s visiting speaker, Ron Morgan, a retired sea captain who will be talking about the problems of controlling a large ship at sea and in port.

In early June Wendy Hill from the Elgar Museum will be addressing members on the life and music of Elgar. Meetings take place every Wednesday at 11am at The Bunch of Carrots, Hampton Bishop. New members can be assured of a very warm welcome. For details, call Bob Hughes on 01432 273622 or Roger Rowell on 880294.

BOOK FAIR - There is a second-hand book fair at South Chapel, All Saints’ Church, from Tuesday until May 19, 10am to 4pm. Free admission and all proceeds go to the British Red Cross.

BOY ENTRANTS - The Three Counties Hotel will host the 50th anniversary reunion of the C flt 3Sqdn RAF Hereford Boy Entrants on July 21.

AUCTION - A Hereford school is looking for donations ahead of an auction to raise funds for two good causes. St Paul’s Primary School in Tupsley wants to collect money for St Michael’s Hospice and Phoenix, a bereavement support service helping those under the age of 21 across the county.

Anyone with items to hand over can contact the school on 01432 273784.
