Hereford Turkey and Tinsel, store gift, yoga, and fund-raiser

TURKEY AND TINSEL - Turkey and tinsel was the theme of the day at a recent event held at The Kindle Centre in Hereford. South Wye Regeneration Partnership and The Kindle Centre held a festive filled afternoon for older vulnerable residents in South Wye, with assistance from Safer Herefordshire. The event saw nearly 60 local residents come along for a free Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and entertainment from the children of Hunderton Neighbourhood Nursery and the Hereford Music Pool. Mandy Evans, South Wye regeneration manager, said: “We were thrilled with the number of residents who attended our event, especially as some don’t normally have the opportunity to get out and about and we hope an enjoyable afternoon was had by all. The event also provided us with an opportunity to personally engage with the residents, to ensure they’re safe and warm in their homes and have access to everything they need on a daily basis.”

Lara Latcham, chief executive of The Kindle Centre, said: “We work hard to provide a range of activities and events throughout the year, especially those which benefit the south of the city and Turkey and Tinsel has certainly ended the year on a high note.”

She added: “We were delighted with the number of people who volunteered to help on the day, from cooking and cleaning to decorating and entertaining. The event wouldn’t have been the success it was, without our band of merry helpers and we offer our thanks to all of them.”

STORE GIFT - The birthday of a Hereford store provided a magical evening for a county charity. Henryka Amber on Widemarsh Street marked 12 months in the city with a celebratory party attended by Herefordshire magician Lofty. A charity raffle saw £531 raised for the Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs to children suffering hair loss through cancer treatment.

YOGA - A series of yoga techniques that a number of celebrities practise is to start in Hereford. Classes are due to begin at the Quakers Meeting House on Monday. For details, call Veronika Pena on 01600 890966 or visit herefordyoga.webeden.co.uk.

FUND-RAISER - More than £1,000 was raised for Breast Cancer Haven in Hereford following a performance by an international drag queen comedian at the city’s Town Hall.

A further £1,017.75 was also given to Breast Cancer Care UK during the evening.
