U3A THE WELLBEING DAY - The next University of the Third Age meeting will be on Tuesday at The Swan at Hay, Church Street. The morning session begins at 10.30am and the second after lunch at 1.30pm. The first guest speaker, Richard Robertshaw, will discuss pain relief and management and his ground-breaking role as a consultant anaesthetist in establishing pain clinics. The afternoon is a presentation on eye health and new developments in contact lenses by local specialist Annette Jackson, an update on dementia services following on from our very successful study day last year, and an interactive dance and movement session to keep us all supple and agile. A variety of health information will be on hand and available to take home.

PICNIC - A big picnic postponed due to bad weather will take place in Hay-on-Wye on September 9. The free ‘picnic and play’ day that was cancelled due to wet weather in July has been rescheduled to take place at Hayfield Community Garden from noon to 4.30pm.

U3A - A U3A study day to help us all to understand memory, forgetfulness and dementia will be held at Summerhill Golf Club on Tuesday from 10am to 4.30pm. Prof Anthony Bayer from Cardiff University will be the main speaker and there will be professionals in attendance to answer questions.

REMEMBERING SIR WILLIAM REARDON-SMITH - The next meeting of U3A Hay takes place at Summerhill Golf Club, Hay on Wye, on Tuesday, starting at 10.30am for the morning session and at 1.30pm for the afternoon session. In the morning session Dr David Jenkins will give a talk entitled Remembering Sir William Reardon-Smith, a fascinating man who was a master mariner, ship-owner and philanthropist from Swansea. In the afternoon members of our current affairs group, which meets in a local pub once a month, will tell you how they put the world to rights. It should be a lively discussion.
