CHRISTMAS SERVICE – Goodrich School has a Christmas service at St Giles’ Church on December 21 from 9.30am-10.30am, to include parents performing the Nativity for their children. On the same day there will also be a PTFA Christmas party, including the Goodrich tradition of giving a gift to Santa to take to other children around the world, from 2.15pm.

ARTS ALIVE - Goodrich Village Hall hosts the comedy thriller Bane, Parts One and Two on May 12, at 7.45pm. This is a multi-award winning one-man comedy show with a live guitar soundtrack, Bane is a show set on the streets of a non-descript American city following anti-hero Bruce Bane, akin to a Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett novel, spliced together with a Quentin Tarrantino movie. It’s a trilogy, but you can see any show independently or all three in any order. Writer and creator Joe Bone plays all of the characters with a stunning live guitar soundtrack from Ben Roe. MONMOUTH BIG BAND - The Monmouth Big Band are playing in the village hall on June 11, at 7.30pm. The talented 20 piece swing band of local jazz musicians sold out completely the last two times they were in Goodrich. TRIP TO SPECSAVERS - Pupils from Goodrich Primary School have been taught the importance of eyecare following a visit to Specsavers in Monmouth. The class of 24 children, made up of four, five and six-yearolds, visited the store as part of a school project on bodies. They were talked through the process and the importance of regular eye tests. They had the chance to try on some frames, and even designed a pair of spectacles themselves.

CURRY NIGHT - On Saturday, Goodrich Village Hall was packed with more than 80 villagers for the third annual curry night. Tickets sold out three weeks beforehand. There was also a raffle and a quiz with an Indian theme which proved popular and more than £600 was raised for village hall funds. PANTOMIME - Goodrich CE Primary School is holding a fantastic pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, at Goodrich Village Hall. MEXICAN NIGHT - The gringos of Goodrich dressed up in style for the Goodrich Village Hall Mexican night on Saturday. More than 60 people, most of them getting in the spirit by wearing ponchos, sombreros and moustaches, joined in the fund-raising event at the newly refurbished village hall. The hall was specially decorated with pictures and flags in a Mexican theme and great fun was had by all. On offer were 12 sumptuous sizzling dishes from 12 local chefs. Entertainment was provided by a Mexican-themed quiz followed by a traditional game of Pinyatta, where a suspended papier mache donkey is hit by a blindfolded participant with a stick until the “gifts from the gods” spill out of the donkey.

FAIR - Goodrich CE Primary School PTFA Christmas fair is on November 26, 6.30pm to 8.30pm with gifts for all ages and festive food. Children will be able to make Christmas gifts at the workstation and Father Christmas will be in his grotto.

VILLAGE HALL - African dance group Siyaya wowed the crowds at the newly refurbished Goodrich Village Hall on the evening of Saturday. The audience were treated to superb evening’s entertainment of African songs, music and dance performed with great energy and skill. On the afternoon the group of musicians also held a workshop at Goodrich School. One of Zimbabwe’s leading dance theatres they have performed in Africa, Italy and Germany, and also played at the Edinburgh Fringe, WOMAD and Glastonbury.

OFSTED - Goodrich Primary School has been honoured by Ofsted in a celebratory event recognising outstanding schools in England. Tony Griffiths, headteacher, attended the event at Gibson Hall in London which was hosted by Christine Gilbert, HM chief inspector of education, children’s services and skills. The chief inspector praised the top schools who had earned themselves a place in the annual list of outstanding providers published by Ofsted. Ms Gilbert said: “I wholeheartedly congratulate Goodrich school on its success and hard work in delivering such high standards.

CONCERT - Goodrich Village Hall was blown away by the amazing sounds of the highly acclaimed Monmouth Big Band on November 28. All 19 members of the band gave their all, playing superbly for three hours under the disciplined direction of band leader Simon Tolley.
