Gladestry Duck Race 2011

Gladestry Duck Race 2011 Gladestry Duck Race 2011

SATURDAY afternoon turned out to be warm and dry for the annual village walk and duck race. The walk took place around Huntington, taking in some outstanding views.

Following the stroll, everyone made for the stream running through Gladestry where around 900 plastic yellow ducks were unceremoniously emptied into very shallow water.

There were many willing hands, however, to help the ducks along.

Excited children, (and grown-ups), disentangled plastic ducks from riverweeds, some were poked along with long sticks.

A hearty ploughmans tea awaited in the village hall, while everyone listened in great anticipation for the number of the winning duck - and, more importantly, the name of it's owner.

First duck home belonged to Marjie Thirlby then Freya Jones, Mike, Jenny Pritchard, Jess Pinches, Julie Jones, Margaret, Mia Ingram, Kaye Davies, Alfie Donovan, Paul, Noah Wood, and Edie and Maddy Budd.

Last duck home, with a booby prize of a quacking toy duck guaranteed to send the owner demented, was won by Patricia Hearne.

Around £850 was raised for village hall funds.

The village hall committee would like to express thanks to everyone who worked so hard for the event and to everyone who turned up to be part of the fun.
