Gladestry Church in Wales primary school held annual UNICEF day for change

Gladestry pupils go green. Gladestry pupils go green.

GLADESTRY Church in Wales Primary School held its annual UNICEF Day for Change recently. This year, the plight of children in Guyana, South America, was highlighted.

The Gladestry pupils attended school wearing something green which, in some cases, included green hair.

In exchange for making a change for a day, parents, pupils and teachers gave a donation to help children and communities deal with the effects of climate change.

The children also made indoor and outdoor games, designed and made a green or camouflage outfit; they did some role-play, composed poems and songs, all with a ‘green’ theme.

UNICEF believes that every child has the right to an education, to health, to a childhood, to be treated fairly, and the right to be heard. These fundamental rights are being denied by climate change in Guyana, where flooding is making it difficult for children to go to school. Day for Change raised money to help communities in Guyana adapt to these changes and help ensure that children are able to realise their rights.
