SHAPING OUR PLACE 2026 - Herefordshire Council has drawn up an economic plan for how it sees the county developing over the next 15 years. It has defined Ewyas Harold as a rural service centre and proposes that 100 new homes are absorbed and that we lose entirely, or have adjusted, our parish boundary. The consultation period, to have your say, ends on March 12. To view a detailed account of the proposal, go to herefordshire.gov.uk. Also on this website is a questionnaire which we hope as many people as possible will return.
If you have any concerns about this proposed restructuring please send a letter or alternatively speak to our parish or district councillors.
SONGS AT DULAS - A pleasant afternoon was spent at Dulas Court when a group of singers from the local churches sang some of the old favourite songs such as The Ash Grove and A Policeman’s Lot is not a Happy One and read some popular poems including Wordsworth’s Daffodils. With Greg Palmer on the grand piano a rousing performance was enjoyed by all. There was also time to chat with the residents and share delicious cake and tea.
ARCHAEOLOGY GROUP - Last Friday a landscape walk took place from the recreation ground in Ewyas Harold to Dulas, viewing the various site of historical interest and ending with a welcome cup of tea at Dulas Court.
FOOTPRINTS - Walking for Health continues every Friday morning meeting at 10am outside the chip shop in the centre of the village. Add easy excercise into your week and improve your health. No great level of fitness is required, any age is welcome and local qualified leaders are in charge. All walks are free and last about 40 minutes with an optional stop at Koffi Pot in the Baptist Chapel at the end. For those who are more adventurous, Footprints has issued a local walk entitled Bray's Walk which starts outside the veterinary surgery, goes up through the village and then along footpaths under Callow Wood and back to the start, lasting at average walking speed about 60 minutes.
WALKING GROUP - For more experienced walkers, on Saturday, starting at 10am, the destination is Kings Caple and the distance about eight miles.
BIBLE STUDY AND PRAYER GROUP - The group will meet on Tuesday, March 9, from 10am, at the rectory when it will be concluding its look at discipleship using Mark’s Gospel.
There is a break at 11.15am for coffee and re-group for prayers at 11.45am to 12.15pm. All are welcome for the whole or part of the morning.
WI - At the start of the February meeting members paid a silent tribute to Judith Burrell who had been a muchloved and respected president and member. With no meeting in January because of the snow, a good number were in attendance to listen to Penny Platts relating some Cathedral Secrets.
Her slides reflected a very personal tour of a familiar building and members are all now eager to go and renew their acquaintance with a building we take for granted. On Tuesday, March 9, David Barrie will be taking the WI By Steam to Darjeeling on a journey to Shangri-La. The institute meets in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm and because it is an open meeting all are invited to come and join in, including men.
COFFEE MORNING - On Saturday, March 10, the St Michael’s Mums and Tots Group is holding a coffee morning in St Michael’s Hall, 10.30am to noon.
There will be a cake stall, bric-a-brac and a raffle. It is to raise funds for this popular group which meets every Wednesday morning in term time from 9am to 11am in St Michael’s Hall. It caters for toddlers, babies and their mums, dads, or carers, and costs £1.50 per session.
LENT STUDY - Churches Together in Ewyas Harold are continuing with their weekly study and lunch on March 11, at noon, at the Baptist Hall. The subject this week is Jesus and the people who miss the mark. All are welcome and the soup is served at 1pm.
