Fownhope community library
9:20am Thursday 5th April 2012 in Fownhope
COMMUNITY LIBRARY - Fownhope’s community library opens on Wednesday at Faulkner House, Church Croft, after almost six months of preparation. The response for books has been truly amazing. More than 60 families and clubs have donated some 2,900 books, as well as DVDs and CDs. There is a wide choice of fiction and non-fiction with a good coverage of travel (including a wide range of local maps), art, biography, history and children’s books. The response has been so good that the library cannot take any more donations, at least for the time being. The library will run every Wednesday from 2pm- 4pm with help from a team of some 30 volunteers serving once a month. A second session is planned for Monday afternoons subject to demand. Membership is open to anyone living or working in Fownhope and surrounding areas and loans are free. The community library has been set up with the backing of Fownhope Parish Council, Herefordshire Housing and the county library service. The National Lottery has provided a generous grant towards start-up costs. More than just a library, it is somewhere to pop in for coffee or tea and chat to friends. A book circle will meet monthly and there are plans for a computer self-help group and a community information service. Inquiries to Margaret and David Clark on 860017 or Mary Pearce on 860580.
