Fownhope local history grroup, Ross bus, and community led plan

LOCAL HISTORY GROUP - Herefordshire films taken by local photographer Harry Williamson will be shown at 2pm next Monday in Fownhope Memorial Hall. Films such as Gleam of Bright Water (the River Lugg) and All in a Year were shot several decades ago and have recently been converted to DVD. Amission is £3 to include tea, coffee and biscuits. All are welcome.

THE Ross BUS - The new bus service, sponsored by the two parish councils, got off to flying start with 31 people travelling on the inaugural service from Mordiford and Fownhope to Ross. A BBC camera crew was at Sufton Rise where the two parish council chairmen, Gareth Williams and Nick Brewin joined the bus . George Young’s supplied a 33 seater bus – room enough for the paying passengers and for the BBC TV reporter, Cath Mackie, and cameraman to stay onboard to film the whole trip to Ross and talk to passengers.

Ross gave a brief civic welcome before passengers disappeared to face dental appointments, visit the library, meet up with friends and absorb some retail therapy.

Mel Preedy had worked hard to attract press interest – good coverage in the Hereford Times and five interviews with BBC local radio.

The service is on the second Thursday of every month ie Thursday April 12th. Why not take the opportunity to spend two and half hours in Ross without the hassle of driving or searching for a parking place, all for just £3.70 return, or free to those with a bus pass.

COMMUNITY-LED PLAN - Residents are urged to attend one of the forthcoming planning for real events to give your ideas on how you would like to see Fownhope develop over the next five years. The sessions are planned for tomorrow (Friday) between 5.30 and 7.30pm - free cider and nibbles, and Saturday between 10-2 - free tea, coffee, cakes. Both events will be held at St Mary’s Primary school. Please speak to the parish clerk on 769480 or fownhopeclerk@hotmail.com for further details or visit the website www.fownhopeclp.org.uk
