Fownhope farmers' market, community library and local history group

FARMERS’ MARKET - The market is tomorrow (Friday), from 3pm-5pm in the village hall with local produce and crafts.

COMMUNITY LIBRARY - Fownhope now has a generous grant from the Lottery fund to pay for bookcases and equipment in Faulkner House. It is hoped to open in late March or early April with one session every Wednesday afternoon, with a second session subject to demand. Organisers are busy cataloguing the first books donated and can now receive more books that people have offered, including paperbacks and large print books, as well as talking books on tape and CD, maps, DVDs and music CDs. Drop them off or call Margret Rolls on 860827, Margaret and David Clark on 860017, Mary Pearce on 860580 or Shelagh Donnelly on 860481.

LOCAL HISTORY GROUP - Local historian and photographer Penny Platts will give an illustrated talk on Friday, February 17, at 7.30pm on Unusual Country Churches of Herefordshire. These will include the ancient carvings at Rowlstone and Brinsop, the wonderful stained glass at Eaton Bishop, the memorials and effigies at Much Marcle and Moccas, fonts at Kenchester and Eardisley and many more. The meeting will also be the group’s AGM, but non-members are most welcome. Tea and coffee will be served.
