LIBRARY - Fownhope Community Library was formally set up last week at well-attended meeting in Faulkner House where a constitution was agreed and a management committee elected. The scheme has the backing of the parish council which will pay the rent and insurance cover, Herefordshire Housing which will provide the venue and the county library service which has provided advice and will make available a stock of books. There was a good response to the recent surveys in Fownhope and Mordiford from both users and people offering books, maps, talking books, magazines, DVDs and CDs for the library. More than 20 people have offered to join a rota to help every Wednesday afternoon. There are plans for a monthly book circle and for sessions to help residents come to terms with their computer and internet access. Coffee and tea will be available to make this a social occasion. Bids have been made to the National Lottery and Herefordshire Housing Community Fund for grants to provide bookcases and display stands. It is hoped to start the library in March or early April and to provide a second weekly session if there is sufficient demand.
