Meeting to discuss Community Led Plan at the Memorial Hall

COMMUNITY LED PLAN - Come along next Monday at 7pm to the Tesco Room in the Memorial Hall to find out about a new plan for Fownhope. A Community-led plan sets out the needs and wishes of the community and creates a vision of how the parish should develop over the next five years or so. A successful CLP relies on everyone in the parish sharing their views and getting on board, so you are encouraged to attend. HISTORY - Fownhope goes back in time on November 19 when the History Group puts on a display of aspects of everyday country life in Fownhope from the 1830s to the First World War. There will be photographs of local events and buildings and a range of maps. Herefordshire Family History Society will join forces with the History Group to help to trace family history. Refreshments, tea, coffee and cakes will be available. The exhibition will be in the Memorial Hall from 10am to 5pm. Entrance is free. There will be a preview of the exhibition in the hall on Friday evening when Janet Jones and David M Clark will present some reports of local events from the pages of the Hereford Times from the 19th-century ranging from local crimes to events such as the club walk.

Fownhope looks set to have its own community library

LIBRARY - Fownhope looks set to have its own community library, an idea which had the backing of a parish referendum as far back as 1999. The parish council has helped to set up a steering group which has been to Peterchurch library and had two meetings with the county librarian who will provide a stock of books to add to the many it is hoped will be donated by the public. The plan is to open every Wednesday afternoon from early spring in Faulkner House with a range of books, talking books, magazines, DVDs and CDs for loan and coffee and tea available to make it a social occasion. Hopefully, copies of planning applications may be available to save people the journey into Hereford. If there’s sufficient demand there will be two sessions a week. A survey form has been distributed around the parish for those interested in using the library, or who might wish to help or donate books. Guy Fawkes competition in Fownhope

GUYS - The annual Guy Fawkes competition will see guys of all descriptions displayed around the village from Wednesday. A dedicated route around the village will be set up on November 5.

Come and see local films of Fownhope

Fownhope ON FILM - Fownhope local history group will have an evening of local films tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm, at Fownhope Memorial Hall. One of the films will show the building of the church lych-gate in 1953, built to celebrate the Queen's Coronation. This film, taken by John Soulsby, was recently converted into DVD format by his son Richard.

You will learn how to help someone who is unconscious, how to perform CPR, how to deal with choking and serious bleeding, recognise the warning signs of a heart attack and how to call for help.
