PLAY - Watch the Ewyas Harold radio play and film Fearless Librarian Saves the Day on the big screen on September 30 at the Memorial Hall at 7pm. Admission is free, with drinks and nibbles.

PARISH COUNCIL - The September meeting was held in the recreation ground pavilion with coun R Baker in the chair, also present were the clerk and county coun Graham Powell.

COUNTY COUNCILLOR'S REPORT - Enterprise status has been awarded to a site in Rotherwas. Demolition has started on the old cattle market site in Hereford. Negotiations are under way for Hereford College of Art to take over and develop a facility at the Black Friars building. Coun Powell will be presenting a motion on rural isolation to the county council, with the hope of getting a pilot study on the creation of village agents.

PAVILION DEVELOPMENT - At a recent meeting with members of the football club there were discussions about improvement to the facilities and these would be beneficial both to the football club and the community as a whole, these would include improvement to toilets, storage, access etc. The parish council would fully support this project.

COMMUNITY LIBRARY - The libraries manager was unable to attend the meeting due to illness, an extra meeting will be arranged later in September.

The next meeting of the council will be held in Rowlestone Village Hall on October 4, at 7.15pm.

PRIMARY SCHOOL - The first weeks of term have fled by with new Year R pupils already happy and confident to come through the school gates. There was a great deal of activity in school over the holidays. The two weeks of sports stars holiday club were well attended by children from Ewyas Harold and Garway schools. A great deal of maintenance work was completed both around the buildings and in the school grounds including improvement to the plumbing and external lighting thanks to Liz Cooper-Tomkins for all her extra work. Hot lunches will be served this term on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Orchestra practice will take place on Tuesday afternoons with tutors offering lessons in guitar, keyboard, violin and woodwind. On Tuesday there will be a welcome evening for parents of all classes, check school office for starting time.

ALL IN A DAY'S WALK - Starting from Garway Chapel at 6.30am and finishing a gruelling 30 miles later 8pm at Madley Chapel, Eric Locke, methodist minister devoted grandfather and keen member of Ewyas Harold Walking Group, said he was a bit tired but felt no ill effects and thanked the local support he had received along the way. His charity walk has already raised £400 towards a very special holiday for Rwanda teenagers and if you would like to support this appeal you can contact Eric Locke on 01981 241084.

BORDER SPINNERS - Come and join us today (Thursday), 2.30pm in the memorial hall, learn to develop traditional and contemporary spinning weaving knitting and felting. We are an informal group of textile enthusiasts we welcome beginners and improvers, equipment is available. Contact Amanda 01981 240208.

FLICKS IN THE STICKS - Never Let me Go (12A), Kazuo Ishiguro's hauntingly poignant and emotional story of love, loss and hidden truth will be shown at the memorial hall tomorrow (Friday), staring at 7.30pm. £4 for adults, £2.50 for under 16s.

HARVEST FESTIVAL - At St Michaels Church on Sunday at 11am, followed by harvest lunch in St Michaels Hall. Decorating the church will be tomorrow (Friday), at 10.30am, all help welcomed. Donations to the Community Larder, ie canned foodstuffs, can be left at back of the church or contact Rev Ashley Evans.

ALL AGE HARVEST - Rev Matt Powell and Joy James will lead a service with the Focus on Peru starting at 10.30am on Sunday.

WALKERS - Walking for health continues every Friday, meet 10am outside the Fish and Chip Shop for short gentle walks around the village lasting about one hour. For more enthusiastic walkers there will be a ten mile walk in the Brecon Beacons on Wednesday, starting at 9am.

LOCAL LIBRARY - A special meeting has been arranged for next Thursday, September 29, 7pm in the recreation ground pavilion for a visit/presentation by Hereford libraries manager. With the travelling library finishing at the end of September this is a good time to ask question about the future of the library service in rural areas. All are welcome.
