PARISH COUNCIL - The August meeting was held in the recreation ground pavilion with Coun Baker in the chair. Also present were the clerk, Coun Powell, community support officer Fiona Witcher and two members of the public.
Public forum. It was reported that the situation regarding parking problems in Priorsfield had improved .
Local security matters. Fiona Witcher gave a breakdown of reported crime within the area. She said that the police had been made aware of a number of parking and speeding problems within the village. At the moment there had been no feedback.
Mobile library. Following the notice of planned withdrawal of this service and the fact that Ewyas Harold has the highest usage in county villages the group parish council was interested in the possibility of opening a community library. Librarian manager John Chedqzof will attend the September meeting of the council to help with filling in of the expression of interest form.
Co-option of councillors. In response to the advertising of vacancies Ian Mcneil is co-opted as member for Ewyas Harold and Elizabeth Overstall co-opted as member for Dulas.
Subsidised bus services 440 and 442. In his report Coun Powell said there would be no closures to services in the Golden Valley. Broadband service and the local development framework were also mentioned. A consultation document will be circulated in September/October 2011.
School lane parking. A site meeting was arranged for August 23 attended by Amey, the group parish council, representatives of Ewyas Harold Primary School, Herefordshire planning and the police to discuss the school plan for off-site parking.
PLAY - Rural Media , the BBC and the people of Ewyas Harold have combined to create a radio play, Fearless Librarian Saves the Day, based loosely on some of the stories told to them by Graham Sprackling who for many years worked on the travelling library in Herefordshire. It was broadcast on September 7 but if you missed it the play and a film will be available on bbc.co.uk/radio4. METHODIST BOOK ROOM - Light reading books available (50p each) from 8.30am - 12.30pm every Monday in the Methodist Chapel. If no one is there please call next door at Forge Garage.
TRAIDCRAFT - Tomorrow (Friday) there will be a stall selling Traidcraft goods at Koffi Pot 10am to 12noon in the Baptist Chapel Hall.
BAROQUE WEEKEND - Unfortunately Natalie Lein has withdrawn from the recital tomorrow (Friday) at Dore Abbey but we are proud to announce that Guy Johnston, cello and Jack Lieback, violin, both recipients of Classical Brit Awards, have returned to the UK to prepare for this Baroque Recital which will feature music by Bach, Kodlay and Ravel. More details from doreabbey.org or 01873 821456. There will also be a choral workshop at Dore Abbey on Saturday followed by a concert at 5pm and Patronal Holy Communion at 10am on September 11.
RIDE AND STRIDE - The annual historic churches sponsored event will be on Saturday and Ewyas Harold Church will be open 10am - 4pm to refresh any weary travellers.
OPEN GARDEN - If you have not visited the castle tump in Ewyas Harold there will be a chance to walk up the mound as well as enjoy the lovely garden created by the owners. Open 2pm - 6pm on Saturday there is plenty of parking on the lower bailey over the cattle grid or disabled parking up at the house. There will be produce, plant stall and castle honey for sale with a bouncy castle and trampoline for the children. Teas will be served all day and money raised will be for St Michaels Church.
BENEFICE BIBLE STUDY - The next meeting is to be held on Tuesday at the Rectory with Bible study from 10am, coffee from 11.15am and meeting for prayers from 11.45am - 12.15pm. We are continuing to look at a series of studies on the Parables. Each study stands in its own right so all are welcome to any part of the morning.
WI - The WI had a lovely time in a garden in August enjoying the sunshine and cream scones. On Tuesday the WI will be having a members evening when everyone has been asked to bring along something they have made - art, craft, needlework, a cake to share with the recipe. It will be a time to showcase everyone's skills and welcome new members and visitors to see what institute members do in their spare time. The meeting starts at 7.30pm and ends with tea or coffee.
