PRIMARY SCHOOL - The new headteacher Mrs Julie Jones and new teacher for class five Miss Morris would like to say a big “thank you” to all the pupils, staff and parents who have extended such a warm welcome to them both. The adverse weather has led to a fragmented start to the January term and the additional problems with the heating have posed further challenges.
Once again, the patience and understanding of all those associated with the school has been very much appreciated, especially Liz Cooper- Toomkins and her husband for all they have done in clearing pathways to make the area around the school accessible for pupils, staff and parents.
We send best wishes to Mrs Ashmead who is currently off school following illness at the end of last term, and thank Jane Jones and Mrs Hickinbottom for ensuring continuity and minimal disruption for the children of class three. This term’s topics are: water for class R; houses, homes and materials for class two; the Great Fire of London for class three; Anglo-Saxons and keeping warm in class four; Italy and habitats for class five; and industrial civilisation for class six. On February 1, The Young Shakespeare company will be in school and in the evening, 6.30pm- 8.30pm, there will be information for class six parents on helping your child revise.
GROUP SERVICE - There will only be one service in the Ewyas Harold group of parishes on Sunday, at 10am in Wormbridge church. It will be a communion service and a chance for all the local congregations to worship together.
ARCHAEOLOGY AND HISTORY GROUP - There will be a talk by Huw Sherlock of Archenfield Archaeology on a new project exploring Ewyas Harold and the Dulas Valley in search of the priory. An archaeological dig is very likely. There will also be a talk on Rhayader museum to help focus on our own Ewyas Harold museum.
Please come to this AGM and hear about the new 2010 Heritage Lottery grant on Thursday, February 4, at 7pm at the Baptist Hall. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.
