Edwyn Ralph open farm Sunday and jubilee

JUBILEE - Edwyn Ralph, Collington and Thornbury had a combined Diamond Jubilee event, which was most successful. There was a picnic, Trevor Hill’s falconery display, a bouncy castle, a portable organ, bonfire and fireworks. Thanks go to all who helped and came.

OBITUARY - An Edwyn Ralph woman who worked tirelessly for its Neighbourhood Watch scheme has died. Doris Culshaw, aged 85, was at the forefront of establishing the organisation in Edwyn Ralph, Collington and Thornbury in the late 1990s and was its senior co-ordinator. She was also a horse and dog lover and often reminisced about her time working for the Royal Horticultural Society and the Melton Mowbray Remount Depot during the Second World War. Bill Taylor, who is the joint senior co-ordinator of the Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Edwyn Ralph, said: “She was a lady who always had a welcome waiting when calling at Pond Farm, including the dogs. She worked tirelessly for Neighbourhood Watch to establish it and since then it has been very successful and in no small way due to her work. Doris would be the first to visit new people in the village and to offer our help. We will miss her terribly, but we have a duty to preserve the work in her memory. It has been a privilege to have known such a lovely lady.”

CHARITY DOG SHOW - Santa Paws will be meeting all the very good dogs in his grotto at a Christmas canine companion show to be held at Edwyn Ralph on Sunday, December 13, from 9.30am. The proceeds will go to the Charles Renton Unit (Hereford Hsopital) and Edwyn Ralph Church. It offers a fun packed day for all the family, starting with four pedigree classes followed by novelty classes including fancy dress (Christmas theme). For details, call Sue on 07940 838357.

HARVEST FESTIVAL - The service is at 6.30pm on Sunday at St Michael’s Church. This will be followed by a bread and cheese supper with traditional cider. All are welcome.

PCC FUN RIDE - Starting from New Cross Farm, Edwyn Ralph, Bromyard (two miles outside Bromyard, on the B4214), this ride is about 10 miles through wonderful north Herefordshire countryside, with optional jumps.
