COMMUNITY CHOIR - The Helen Vereker singers, a community choir based in Hereford, will be performing at Dilwyn’s Cedar Hall on Saturday at 7pm, providing an evening of fun and lively songs from a variety of genre, including pop, rock, jazz gospel and more. Tickets are £8 and £4 to include puddings which will be served in the interval. Please make a note to bring your own bottle. SPORTS DAY - Children, staff and parents of Dilwyn Playgroup stayed cool under gazebos on their sports day on July 8, at the start of the recent heat wave. All the children (aged two to four years) took part in five races and the parents managed one too.

ANNUAL CHURCH FETE - Will take place this Saturday on the village green or if wet in the Cedar Hall, starting at 2.30pm until 5pm. The fete will be opened by the Rev John Theaker. There will be a ringing of the recently refurbished church bells and a dance display performed by the Weobley Aspire Dance Studio.

APPLE BLOSSOM WALK AND VINTAGE TEA - Dilwyn support group for St Michael’s Hospice is having an apple blossom walk and vintage tea at The Haven, Dilwyn, on Sunday. Come at 2pm for 2.30pm walk or trailer ride. No dogs. £5 to include tea. Raffle, bring-and-buy, plant stalls.

DILWYN SHOW – This takes place on Bank Holiday Monday and the main arena will feature the spectacular daredevil Flyin Ryan and his Motorcycle Stunt Show, Bob Hogg with his Sheepdog and Ducks, and a comedy car act. There will be two performances of each. There will also be a horse show, a companion dog show, displays of more than 100 classic and vintage vehicles, craft marquee and stalls, fairground, and laser clay pigeon shoot.

THEATRE AT CROWN – The Invaders Are Coming, written by Dilwynner Tony Hobbs, will commence at 7.30pm on Wednesday and next Thursday (March 28) at The Crown Inn. The evening’s entertainment will include a hot meal and a raffle. Proceeds from the raffle will go to Dilwyn playgroup.

SERVICES -The Harvest Festival service at St Mary’s is tomorrow (Friday) at 7pm. A painting by Hereford artist Peter Manders featuring a tractor carrying hay bales past the church will be included in the autumn edition, out today, of Herefordshire Society magazine. A patronal festival together with thanksgiving for harvest will be held on Sunday at 11am in the church of S. Cosmas and St. Damian, Stretford. The guest speaker will be Meriel Oliver.

BALLOON RACE - This Saturday from noon in the Cedar Hall there will be jacket potato lunches, a raffle, stalls, refreshments and face painting for the children. At 2pm the balloons will be released. Results will be announced on April 21, at a coffee morning in the Cedar Hall, 10am-noon. This event has been sponsored by local businesses and all proceeds from balloon sales and actitivies on the day will be donated to Midlands Air Ambulance.

COFFEE - Generous support at Dilwyn Cedar Hall raised £2,200 for therapy resources in the Cantilupe ward at the Stonebow Unit, Hereford. The event, attended by the mayor of Hereford Coun Julie Woodward and her consort, was the inspiration of Dilwyn resident Jillian Okell who works as an occupational therapist assistant in the ward. There were stalls selling various wares and providing information on the work of the Stonebow Unit and the refurbishment plans that will take place in 2012. There was also a well supported raffle and an auction conducted by Richard Hall from Arrow Mill.
