FUN EVENING - Parishioners from Ledbury deanery’s 22 parishes are invited to a social evening of poetry, prose and music at 7.30pm on October 1, at Colwall Village Hall. The theme of the event is As Summer Welcomes Autumn and organisers also plan to offer pints and Pimm’s. As well as experienced readers it is hoped that Cradley and Much Marcle schools will be taking part. Readings have been chosen from works by John Arlott, Alan Bennett, John Betjeman, Wendy Cope, Carol Ann Duffy, Matt Harvey (poet in residence at this year’s All England tennis championships), Seamus Heaney, Phoebe Hesketh, Ted Hughes, Laurie Lee, John Masefield, Sylvia Plath, William Shakespeare and many more. Admission is free, though donations will be invited.

SHOW - Wyche and Colwall Horticutural Society annual show is at the village hall from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday. As well as the usual exhibits there will be a plant stall, teas and cakes, ice creams, produce stall, greeting cards, raffle, tombola and secondhand books.

FOLK MUSIC WORKSHOP – A new regular folk music workshop is starting on the third Friday of the month at the Ale House from 7.30pm. Suitable for all instruments, beginners and improvers, and there will be a bring and share supper. First meeting will be tomorrow (Friday). HALF TERM FUN - There is a family coffee morning and children’s fair, 9.30am to 11.30am tomorrow (Friday), at Colwall Village Hall in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Nearly-new toys, books, clothes, children’s tombola, games. Sell your computer games, musical books/instruments and bikes and we will take 25 per cent commission for Macmillan. Entry, including a free drink, is £1 adults, 50p children.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY - The next meeting of the Wyche and Colwall Horticultural Society will be on Monday at Colwall Village Hall. The lecture this year is going to be given by Sir Roddy Llewellyn, entitled Imaginative Ideas and Colour Combinations. Funds raised will be for the Percy Picton Memorial Fund, which gives grants to students studying horticulture at Pershore College. Tickets are £10 to include a glass of wine and nibbles.

WYCHE AND COLWALL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY – The next meeting of the Wyche and Colwall Horticultural Society will be on Monday, September 7. Confessions of a Plant Freak is the topic to be given by Nick Macer. Nick, from Pan Global Plants in Gloucester, will introduce us to plants he has collected from South Africa, Mexico, Chile and Vietnam. The meeting will be at Colwall Village Hall, with refreshments available from 7pm.
