The bells at St Giles’ Church will ring out today - after 30 years of silence.
A wedding taking place today (Saturday) will be the first time in a generation that villagers in Acton Beauchamp, near Bromyard , will have heard the chimes.
The historic bells, two of which date back to 1480, were installed on Wednesday afternoon after the parochial church council raised £10,000 restoration costs.
Grants were received from the Friends of Frome Churches and the C of E’s church buildings council while fund-raisers also brought in £1,000 of their own to meet the target.
The three bells will not swing in the traditional sense but now have clappers placed on their exteriors to ensure the church can be heard for miles around.
The “trigger action swinging clappers” – to give the new system its official name – were installed by AWBerry of Malvern.
