A MARKET town with a minor identity crisis is calling on residents to promote their town.

Community figures in Bromyard have launched a competition to find a slogan for the town.

Organisers want the slogan to capture the essence of Bromyard – and what makes it so special and unique.

The winning entry could appear on signs and promotions, while a £20 Legges gift voucher is also up for grabs.

Town councillor and co-organiser Gary Swinford was inspired by Norwich, which bills itself as “a very fine city”.

“It gives the place an identity and we want something like that to define Bromyard,” he said.

“I think Bromyard’s a well-kept secret. It’s very easy for local people to get down about the place but there’s a lot going on.”

Coun Swinford said there had been plenty of suggestions for the competition, which runs until November 9.

“One recent entry was ‘this is the gateway to God’s apples’, but I’ve had lots of people ring up with ideas,” he added.
