PUPILS from a Hereford school held a tea party to celebrate the first birthday of a national campaign to create school gardens.
The party at Broadlands Primary School was to celebrate the first birthday of the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) Campaign for School Gardening, which encourages schools to create school gardens, teach the national curriculum outdoors and promote the life skill of gardening.
The school has just celebrated the first anniversary of their own vegetable garden. The pupils, who harvest all their own fruit, vegetables and herbs, are taught maths in the garden.
Science co-ordinator Felicity Weeks said: "Using nature as a teaching tool engages children across the curriculum and particularly promotes vocabulary development."
