Headteacher ends 27-year reign

A BROMYARD headteacher has reached new heights on his final day at school.

Friends at St Peter's Primary School rose to the occasion at Martin Holt's retirement party.

His reward for 27 years in charge was a helicopter tour piloted by a former pupil.

Mr Holt, aged 64, retired last Friday, and may have been the county's longest-serving headteacher.

And there were plenty of familiar faces at the school on Monday (Jul 21), when staff past and present threw a party in his honour.

“What made it particularly special was that I was completely shocked - I can’t tell everyone how happy I was," he said.

Mr Holt has taught at St Peter’s for 35 years having become deputy headteacher in 1973.

He took over from headteacher, Harry Pierpoint, eight years later before overseeing the move to Cherry Tree Close.
