Long-serving head to retire

ONE of Herefordshire’s longest-serving headteachers is calling it a day after 35 years of teaching.

Staff and pupils at St Peter’s Primary School, Bromyard, are about to say farewell to Martin Holt.

Mr Holt, aged 65, first taught at St Peter’s in 1973 before becoming headteacher eight years later.

Grades have improved during his 27-year tenure, while he oversaw the school’s move to Cherry Tree Close.

But the current term will be his last - and his colleagues are determined to start his retirement on a good note.

A concert takes place on July 17 at St Peter’s Church, while the school is hosting a playground party the following day.

Deputy headteacher, Heather Yarnold, hopes for a good community turnout at both events, at 7pm and 3.30pm, respectively.

“The concert is something he’s planned and he wants to go out with a bang,” she said.

“He’s a huge part of the community - he is St Peter’s Primary School and it’s really quite sad that he’s retiring".
