Dog show with a difference

1:01pm Wednesday 9th July 2008

THE organisers of a Herefordshire village fete have gone barking mad in a bid to help charity.

Lower Sapey holds a grand fete and dog show on Saturday, 26 July - but don’t expect to see a best in show.

The show has been billed as the opposite of Crufts, where judges reward the most disobedient, cheekiest and greediest dogs.

They’ll also find out if dogs really do resemble their owners, while the scruffiest mutt can win a mini-makeover, Gok Wan style.

The event takes place from 2pm at Kelsey in Tedstone Wafre, with proceeds going to the local church and air ambulance.

Organiser, Lynne Samuels, wanted a “dog show with a twist”, and is counting on local schools to take part.

“We’re especially looking for best school mascot, where a dog is dressed is in school uniform,” she said.

“It’s the first-ever time the fete has held a dog show and I’m just trying to make it as wacky as possible".

Entries from the Bromyard and Stourport area are especially welcome - for more information, contact Lynne on 07974 039183.
