CRIMINALS in Bromyard will soon have nowhere to hide thanks to a long-awaited CCTV system.

The launch of camera system covering the town centre is "imminent" according to Councillor, Nigel Davis.

The £10,000 Bosch system was touted last year, and proposes linking a handful of cameras on the internet, viewable at the police station.

There has been numerous delays - including worries over cybertheft and planning restrictions - but the project is now moving.

“I’d say the launch is imminent - there’s still a bit of work to be done, but we are pressing ahead now,” said Coun Davis.

“The first package was for six cameras but it’s a system we can add to, and we’ve had plenty of interest," added the councillor.

Coun Davis gave an update to backers, Bromyard & Winslow Town Council, at their last meeting and told members that two of the six cameras were now operational.

He added the group were awaiting the final costings.

Councillor Jonathan Lester, Mayor of Bromyard, said he was amazed at the number of problems encountered by the Town Watch, and acknowledged their hard work.

“We all want to make Bromyard safer but when you’ve got to deal with security and credit and planning permission it shows how difficult it can be,” he said.
