A BROMYARD group is willing to go behind closed doors in a bid to reveal the town’s past.

The Bromyard Local History Society is investigating the origins of town centre buildings.

The group hopes to compile a detailed study of around 50 buildings, dating from the 15th to 17th centuries.

The one-year project has received lottery funding, and will be launched next Wednesday (June 11) at the Conquest Theatre.

Mandy Palmer, chairman, believes the project will be good for tourism and locals alike, but needs help from homeowners.

“We feel that a better understanding of the buildings can be a valuable asset in terms of promoting the town, raising its profile and encouraging tourism,” she said.

“But obviously this is a project that can only succed with the co-operation and goodwill of owners and occupiers”.

The group has also recruited researcher, Duncan James - who has carried out similar projects in Ledbury and around Weobley - to record the findings, for public release next summer.

Mr James will hold a presentation at the launch meeting, starting at 7.30pm. For more information, contact 01885 488755.
