Hereford United legend gets all clear after cancer battle

Everton FC’s academy coach Kevin Sheedy urges people to get a check up and not ignore any health concerns, after he survived bowel cancer that was diagnosed in time.
HEREFORD United legend Kevin Sheedy has won his toughest battle to date – a fight against cancer.
The 52-year-old was diagnosed with bowel cancer in August but has now been given the all-clear by doctors after undergoing surgery.
Sheedy, who was born in Builth Wells but went to school in Hereford, made more than 50 appearances for the Bulls in the late 1970s before moving to Everton.
He went on to play for the Merseyside giants 369 times and was part of the squad which won the FA Cup in 1984.
Six years later he scored against England while playing for the Republic of Ireland in the World Cup.
He is currently academy coach at Everton but still has family living in Herefordshire and signed up as an ambassador to promote the county three years ago.
He told the Premier League club’s website that he would urge anyone with health concerns to visit their GP.
“My life has been saved through early detection and I am told that over 90 per cent who are diagnosed at the earliest stage are successfully treated,” he added.
“Don’t be embarrassed to go otherwise you could die of that embarrassment.”
