Sorry to pick on you 'Herefordian', lots of other ignorant (and grammatically poor) comments posted here too.
Nice to know we aren't all jumping to conclusions about the gypsies. Of course, nobody else commits crimes in our fair county…whoever nicked my car last year notwithstanding. Or was that those accursed Eastern Europeans? We Brits wouldn’t go oversees to work would we! Europe, North America, the Middle-East, Australasia, S. America and Africa not withstanding (and me included for a year)…..about 7 million ex-pats last time I looked I think. Similar to the number of non-UK residents working in the UK? But it’s okay for us to do it; our Empire made the world what it is today didn’t it! They should be grateful (this is sarcasm).
Statistically gypsies and travellers are no more likely to commit crimes than any other social group. They pay tax, either directly (Council Tax, ‘rates’ etc on legal sites) or indirectly – unless they have their own oil refinery somewhere I haven’t heard about (it’s not them drilling off the Falklands and upsetting the Argentinians is it?)? And make or steal their own clothes? Or grow all their own food?
They have a different way of life which is threatening to some but maybe if we provided an adequate number of decent quality sites for gypsies and travellers that would be a good first step? Not all angels I'm sure, and clearly the occupation of the racecourse is unacceptable, but let's try to be a little bit more level-headed here.
As an aside, some also did a cracking job on my drive last year – cheap too, it was cash in hand :-)"

Travellers move onto Hereford Racecourse

A group of travellers have moved on to Hereford Racecourse.

The mobile homes and caravans are parked on the western end of the site, near the road to Highmore Street.

Jackie Mumford, from First Holmer Scouts, said they arrived on August 9.
