Travellers move onto Hereford Racecourse

A group of travellers have moved on to Hereford Racecourse.

The mobile homes and caravans are parked on the western end of the site, near the road to Highmore Street.

Jackie Mumford, from First Holmer Scouts, said they arrived on August 9.

Again, these people can do what they want, all authority is too frightened to do anything to them, in case it offends human rights, what about the ordinary persons human rights, or do you only get them (human rights) if you break the law?

Cynics all of you. We've been waiting for a lucky break like this. This is excellent news for our impoverished economy and another option as to what we might do with the Racecourse now we no longer can or want to race horses. With thought, goodwill and some imagination, we can build a top class, state of the art 'pitch' for the good people of the travelling community. It can be the best in our Country This investment will bring into our good City,Tarmac'ers, block paving engineers, tree surgeons, scrap metal recycler's and a whole raft of other things that will benefit the entire legal profession. What a boost!

It seems the one thing Hereford racecourse is not used for is racing horses. Someone may as well be using it.

Why the hashtag? Firstly, this isn't Twitter. Secondly, they're meant to tag a tweet so that it can be found when searching for tweets on a certain subject, not to cram a short statement with no spaces in at the end of a tweet

I hope there paying council tax water rates, and electric there probable connected to the nearest lamp post more shop lifters and thieving warning do not let them take you into having your drive tarmac or any other cow boy jobs

Sorry to pick on you 'Herefordian', lots of other ignorant (and grammatically poor) comments posted here too.
Nice to know we aren't all jumping to conclusions about the gypsies. Of course, nobody else commits crimes in our fair county…whoever nicked my car last year notwithstanding. Or was that those accursed Eastern Europeans? We Brits wouldn’t go oversees to work would we! Europe, North America, the Middle-East, Australasia, S. America and Africa not withstanding (and me included for a year)…..about 7 million ex-pats last time I looked I think. Similar to the number of non-UK residents working in the UK? But it’s okay for us to do it; our Empire made the world what it is today didn’t it! They should be grateful (this is sarcasm).
Statistically gypsies and travellers are no more likely to commit crimes than any other social group. They pay tax, either directly (Council Tax, ‘rates’ etc on legal sites) or indirectly – unless they have their own oil refinery somewhere I haven’t heard about (it’s not them drilling off the Falklands and upsetting the Argentinians is it?)? And make or steal their own clothes? Or grow all their own food?
They have a different way of life which is threatening to some but maybe if we provided an adequate number of decent quality sites for gypsies and travellers that would be a good first step? Not all angels I'm sure, and clearly the occupation of the racecourse is unacceptable, but let's try to be a little bit more level-headed here.
As an aside, some also did a cracking job on my drive last year – cheap too, it was cash in hand :-)

Actually they have gone now much to the relief of Highmoor st, Westfield st and Bobblestock residents who have had to put up with the music of their party's until 3am every day, music that you could actually hear from the Bobblestock Co-Op store!!! Much to the relief of the little girl on Highmoor st who had her bike stolen by two gypsy girls, and much to the relief of the many residents of Bobblestock that had washing stolen off their clothes lines at night time!!!
They may be gone but they won't be forgotten for a while by the regular users of the pathway from fakenham drive to Highmoor st because they've churned it all up to a mud bath with all of their vehicles and caravans, vehicles such as the £80,000 2012 registered Porche Cayene turbo that was pulling one caravan!!! Piles of rubbish everywhere including mountains of old tarmac from peoples drives whom they've ripped off during their stay!!! And they wonder why they're not welcome!!!

The scapegoating in Herefordshire reminds me of a certain European country in the 1930s. Just saying. Who's next for the wrath of the masses I wonder?

Why when somethings stolen you have to point towards travellers??? Herefords the worst place in midlands for heroin use and dont you think there more likely to steal?? Most travellers are very wealthy people. Also the travellers at the racecourse were really nice people doin security there they brought us over hot drinks and cooked a bbq. Why be prejudice towards them there not doing any harm there there for a few days if you wanna blame anyone blame the racecourse for not closing the gates.

Yeah well we are the idiots for paying it not them, there clever people we are the mugs. Good luck to them.

8:01pm Thu 23 Aug 12

Good riddance to them. I actually had some machinery stolen by travellers that parked on land where PC World etc is now built upon. The same travellers that moved out of Leominster after trashing the place and threatening customers & staff at one of the Supermarkets. And as for giving them somewhere to live look at how they trashed the camp at Redhill
These are not normal beings they are scum preying everywhere and on vonurable people. The burger van was targeted on B&Q's car park and gas cyclinders stolen. The very type of gas to power their stolen generators and tarmacing equipment
Sorry no time for them
Oh by the way I am self employed and have to pay my taxes something they don't know the meaning of

billyb83 says...
8:25pm Thu 23 Aug 12

I bet your such a role model Herefordian!!!!! As for travellers they wouldnt steal gas bottles they would go for bigger stuff ie the burger van itself. Take a look on your own doorstep in Hereford and see the smack heads walking the streets there the ones you should watch out for.

Herefordian says...
8:45pm Thu 23 Aug 12

Role model I am. At least I can walk down the street and walk through High Town to be greeted by my customers and friends, something the travellers can't do or wouldn't know how to

Hi Billy, Friends of yours?
Metal thieves caused damage estimated at up to £10,000 when they took pipes from a disused hospital.

A bungalow on the site of Lea Castle Hospital in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, flooded when copper water pipes were removed during Wednesday night.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said the site belonged to the NHS and any cost to it was a cost to the public purse.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.

i worked next to a travellers site for years, when the romany travellers were on there it was kept clean and we had very little trouble, then they left and the irish moved on. The council run site was torn to peices, doors riped off utility blocks, scrap cars turned upside down hunderds of old gas bottles. They refused to pay the rent so the council had to go with police escort on rent day, the police had to go in with a van load of them. Working next to them we had constant abuse, diesel stolen, botles and a knife thrown at us. When they left it cost tens of thousands of pounds to clean up the rat infested site all to the cost to the tax payer not the pikeys.

billyb83 says...
7:29pm Mon 27 Aug 12

Thats it trucking romany travellers are good honest people its the irish tinkers who are the one who give all travellers a bad name. I got family friends who live on the site down rotherwas and there place is so clean you could eat of the floor. This people on here aint a clue about much they just brandish all travellers the same.
