Man drowns in lake near Madley

A MAN died while swimming in a lake in Herefordshire.

The man, believed to be a foreign national in his 20s, drowned while swimming in water near Lower Lulham Farm, near Madley, on Saturday (August 11) at around 7.10pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene and a spokesperson said: "A body was recovered from the lake by the fire service. Unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the casualty and the person was confirmed deceased at the scene by ambulance crews."

Theses lakes and Quary's are so dangerous people do not know how deep they are, i was brought up at Eastnor and we always visited the Gulit at castle morton it is 40ft deep some many poeole have lost there lives there over the years it do's not matter how song a swimmer you think you are or if you can swim at all.

Very sad indeed. We used to swim at Bridge Sollars when we were kids when the old bridge was there back in the 90's. We never really saw the danger that was so apparent but I'd be scared to death if my kids swam in rivers/lakes now. My thoughts are with the young man's family and friends.
