Llanthony Show celebrates 50 years in 1960s style
12:30pm Tuesday 31st July 2012 in Local News By Lauren Rogers
THE Llanthony Show is celebrating its 50th year with a swinging 1960s theme.
Hundreds of people are expected to visit the agricultural show on August 4, where there will be show jumping, traditional livestock competitions, sheep sheering and the annual fancy dress contest.
The rural show was established in 1962 in response to a television documentary which labelled Llanthony “the Dying Valley”.
This year committee members will mark the occasion by wearing Sixities costume. Visitors are invited to do the same as well as bringing in their memories and photographs of past shows or getting involved in the 1960s-themed float parade.
For more information call show secretary Andrea Ellaway on 01873 890920 or email andreamevans@hotmail.com .
- Gates will open at 9.30am on August 4 with entry at £5 for adults and £2.50 for children under 14 and OAPs.
