Warning to farmers after sheep found stuck in manhole
4:46pm Thursday 14th June 2012 in Local News
FARMERS are being warned to be extra vigilant after a sheep got stuck in a manhole in north Herefordshire.
The ewe was discovered in a field by a surveyor who was investigating a blockage and the RSPCA was called.
“It was sheer chance that this sheep was found as there were no other sheep in the field so no one was checking the area,” said RSPCA inspector Suzi Smith.
“This incident must serve as a warning to all livestock and equine owners that they must check their fields for any hazards before allowing their animals to graze.
“Hedgehogs are often the innocent victims of uncovered drains, which is completely unnecessary and avoidable if people would just check their gardens and fields for such dangers.”
Anyone who sees a trapped animal in distress can call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
