Swimming ahead in children's lessons

Herefordshire has been named as one of the top five local authorities for teaching children to swim.

A consensus carried out by the Amateur Swimming Association and Kellogg’s showed that 85 per cent of children in the county were able to swim 25 metres unaided by the end of key stage two.

Ray Shakesheff, swimming co-ordinator at Ledbury Swimming Pool, said the county’s Halo Leisure service – which has teaching pools in Hereford, Ledbury, Ross and Leominster – was delighted with the findings.

“Swimming lessons teach your child a core skill that could potentially save their life,” he said.
