Open day at fire station hopes to fill vacancies
4:29pm Friday 25th May 2012 in Local News By Lydia Johnson
HEREFORD and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service are holding an open day for anyone who thinks a job in firefighting is for them.
There are several job vacancies for extra on-call firefighters around Herefordshire, and Leominster Fire Station’s awareness session on Monday May 28 at 7pm will show what can be expected in the job.
Bob Sproat, station commander at Leominster Fire Station, said: “The role of on-call firefighter is challenging and extremely rewarding and these men and women provide a vital service for their local communities – saving lives at the scene of road traffic collisions and preventing the spread of fire in homes and businesses.”
Applicants must be 18 or over and live or work within five minutes of the station, with full training provided.
