Woman airlifted after accident near Hay-on-Wye
A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital following an accident between the car she was driving and an articulated lorry in Herefordshire.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the junction of the A438 and B4350, near Hay-on-Wye, shortly after 6.15pm on Friday.
A community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle attended along with a paramedic area support officer, an ambulance crew and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham.
Chris Kowalik, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: “Prior to the arrival of ambulance crews, a passer-by pulled the woman driver from her car and began to resuscitate her.
"The woman, who is in her forties, had serious chest, pelvic, arm and leg injuries. Due to the seriousness of her injuries and her condition, she was flown on alert to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, home to one of the West Midlands’ new major trauma centres.
"She was in a critical condition when the air ambulance crew left the hospital.”
The Welsh Ambulance Service also attended.
