The Ministry of Defence has said a "low-level" radioactive material was found at the current SAS base in Credenhill, not its former city home.

Reports yesterday suggested the presence of radium-226, a low-level contaminant, had been found at the old Stirling Lines site in Hereford.

The MOD has since issued a statement saying: "We should make it clear that the Stirling Lines site referred to is the current occupied site at Credenhill and not the former site in the centre of Hereford which is now a housing estate."

It went on to say the potential risk to those at the base "is considered to be low".
