A TEENAGE mountain biker is in a serious condition after injuring his head in woods near Ross-on-Wye.
The 14-year-old boy suffered the life-threatening injury after crashing in Chase Woods at 5.15pm last night (Monday).
Fellow riders said the cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, fell around 20 feet after attempting a home-made jump.
The victim was taken to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol after being rescued by emergency services in difficult conditions.
A rapid response vehicle, two ambulances, a BASICS emergency doctor and incident support officer all attended.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said a doctor treated the boy at the scene before travelling with the cyclist to hospital.
They said: “The teenager had a very serious head injury. He was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board.
“Due to the damp and muddy conditions, ambulance staff worked with firefighters to carry the youngster to a waiting ambulance.”
