S&A given permission to build accommodation for 850 workers

A MAJOR soft fruit business has been given permission to downsize its employee accommodation.

S&A Produce was refused permission last May to house 1,000 seasonal workers at its Brook Farm base in Marden, forcing bosses into a re-think.

The revised plans featuring room for 850 workers in a mixture of static caravans and dormitories along with the removal of accommodation ‘pods’, were given the nod by members of Herefordshire Council’s Planning Committee this afternoon.

Another nail in the coffin of Marden village. More heavy trucks using the narrow roads and river crossings, along with S&A buses and tractors hurtling along at great speed as time is money. I'm afraid it's all about S&A profit and cheap labour, not Herefordshire jobs. Anyway, who is eating all this out of season fruit?

Is there anyone in Herefordshire prepared to work in the strawberry fields to try and keep some form of Industry going in the area ?? Maybe, as Cadbury did, move the operation to Poland and generate zero income locally. Should be good for the economy especially as Gordon is spending, spending,sp
ending !!!!

At last common sense seems to be starting to prevail. The local economy cannot survive without an income. The local planning system should be supporting the people who are prepared to finance and try to maintain a vibrant economy in the hope that there will be employment, so that the over supply of social housing can be occupied which should also bring in an element of rates which will accrue to the ever increasing demands of the local authority. Especially the ever restrictive and growing planning department who contribute to the lack of employment in many ways.
