NOW it has produced one major chart topper staff at Kington’s Lady Hawkins’ School are wondering if the cast of this year’s school play might just contain more future stars in the making.
Former pupil and Brit Award winner Ellie Goulding, whose debut album recently reached number one, appeared in its 2003 production of The Wizard of Oz and has inspired those in its 2010 version of cult juke box musical Return to the Forbidden Planet to reach for the stars themselves.
More than 60 cast and crew members have pulled together 25 hit rock and pop songs from the 1960s and 70s to tell the story of a spaceship that is mysteriously drawn to the planet D’lllyria where mad scientist Doctor Prospero and daughter Miranda are marooned. Based loosely on Shakespeare’s The Tempest and sci-fi movie classic Forbidden Planet, those behind the production believe it is “simply out of this world”.
The show takes place at Lady Hawkins’ School tomorrow at 7.30pm and on Saturday at 3pm and 7.30pm.
For tickets call the school on 01544 230441.
