A YOUNG blacksmith has taken on the challenge of working on one of the oldest and heaviest doors in Europe.
Aaron Heath is busy working on the hinges for Chepstow Castle’s one tonne wood door.
The 26-year-old works from Oldfield Forge in Garway and says that he is so busy he may soon be taking on staff.
Mr Heath, who trained at Holme Lacy College, also works with gates, railings and curtain poles. But he says his latest task is not too out of the ordinary as he has also worked for Hereford Cathedral and the National Trust.
Fans of his work can see Mr Heath in action as he hosts demonstrations at fetes and shows along the Welsh border and at Hereford Cider Museum’s open weekend. He is also hosting an open day at his workshop on September 6 between 10.30am and 5pm.
