Police warn Ross off-road motorcyclists

ROSS residents have been warned about riding off-road motorbikes in town.

The police are clamping down on riders who risk serious injury by riding illegally.

PC Mark Murphy said a core of youngsters ride unregistered machines without insurance or MOT on footpaths.

Police have seized four motorbikes already during increased patrols.

The law states all riders:

• must be 16 and hold a valid driving licence

• must wear a helmet and have a DVLA-registered bike which is taxed, with a MOT, lights and a registration plate

The law also states that off-road bikes:

• Must only be riden on private land with the landowner’s permission

• Cannot be riden on common land, footpaths or bridleways
