A HEREFORD woman is to run in the British 10km to raise money for a little known charity.
Maxine Taylor is taking part in aid of the Scoliosis Campaign Fund, a joint venture between the Scoliosis Association (SAUK) and the British Scoliosis Research Foundation (BSRF). She will take part in the race in London on Sunday, July 12.
“My 12-year-old daughter Amelia was diagnosed with scoliosis two months ago, so I want to raise as much money as possible, as well as awareness of the condition,”
said Mrs Taylor. “There is no one in Hereford who can treat it, so we have to see a specialist in Birmingham.”
Scoliosis is an abnormality of the spine and is common at the start of adolescence. It can lead to disfigurement if not treated early.
Mrs Taylor, of Hunderton, added that it is likely Amelia will need corrective surgery and may require braces.
“Sponsorship is going really well at the moment,” she said.
“Initially the target was £100, but I have already raised more than £300 and am hopeful that more will come in.
“I have already done a half marathon in the Forest of Dean in March so I’ll be up for the 10k run.”
