A CAMPAIGN to resolve parking problems in a Hereford suburb is continuing following a further complaint from residents this week.

Sally Hollingshead, vice-chairman of the North Tupsley Action Group, contacted Hereford Sixth Form College after more congestion in Whittern Way.

She told the Hereford Times, a car had been parked across the end of her driveway, which blocked in her neighbour’s vehicle on Monday morning.

“This lady is a carer for the elderly and she had to walk to her patient,” she said.

“When the driver finally returned to his car at 2pm, I discovered he was a student at the Sixth Form College.”

Sixth Form College principal Dr Jonathan Godfrey said the college had taken measures to limit parking problems.

“We spend a considerable amount of money providing subsidised train and bus passes for students who live some distance away,” he said.

“We ask them not to travel by car. If residents provide us with a number of a car that is causing a nuisance, we will discipline the student.”

An updated green travel scheme, included training for cyclists, is also ongoing.

“We do not have enough parking even for the teachers who work at the college,” said Dr Godfrey.

“We would be very happy to see a residents’ parking scheme introduced in the area.”

He added that both the Sixth Form College and Herefordshire College of Technology (HCT) had provided thousands of pounds towards this as part of a section 106 agreement following the planning process for expansion work.

Last week, HCT principal Ian Peake told the Hereford Times that more parking spaces were being created to meet the needs of its staff and students.

I wouldn't hold your breath with regards to a residents parking scheme. The residents of Canal Road in Hereford have been waiting for a reply to enquiries for well over a year now. It makes me wonder what the councillors actually do...apart from telling us how busy they are. Surely to get 5 (yes only five!) resident parking passes sorted surely wouldn't take that long. If you call or write to them you are ignored or passed to another department. I have through my work traveled the length and breadth of this country and have NEVER had to deal with such imcompetency. Whoever is in charge of the highway department should hang their heads with shame. And just as a little follow on to the highways dept, I would like to add that the idea of resurfacing a road is surely to improve it. The 'landscaping' currently taking place in Barrs Court road is a joke. Surely drain covers level with the road surface is the normal and more traditional way of road laying...unlike the manmade lakes you've created! CRAZY!
