Volunteers think pink to have fundraising all wrapped up

FUNDRAISERS are urging county motorists to think pink in the name of charity by making their cars the same colour.

Entries are still being taken for a special Pink Car Rally in aid of Herefordshire’s Little Princess Trust and anyone can join in.

Drivers can wrap vehicles in a special removable film to help create awareness of the charity, which provides wigs for young people with cancer, and boost funds in a pink procession driving from Hereford to Bristol.

Volunteer Sali Gray owns a pink Nissan and hit upon the idea after noticing the trust’s similarly coloured butterfly logo.

She said: “No matter how old you are, whether you’re male or female, hair loss is traumatic.

“All I know is I have three young girls with beautiful hair and if it happened to any one of them, it would be devastating.”

The drive is the first of several – with visits planned to other hospitals in the Midlands and Wales in the future.

The drives will culminate in a 2012 trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

“This event is more about raising awareness, which is why we have created a five-year programme, so that the charity will hopefully be really well known by the end of it,” said Ms Gray.

Drivers who already own pink cars are also wanted to join in the fun, which starts at Hereford County Hospital at 10am.
