STARTED in 1987 by half-a-dozen craftsmen and women living in the town, this month sees crafts cooperative Hay Makers celebrating its coming of age.
To mark its 21st anniversary, the gallery is holding a special exhibition which sees the return of distinguished printmaker, Richard Bawden, one of the gallery’s most established artists, whose work is in both the V&A and Tate Britain.
Ceramics are represented by two potters who have exhibited at the Hay Makers before.
Clio Graham’s earthenware pottery is inspired by nature combined with poetry and Rodney Lawrence makes low-temperature stoneware producing both wheel-thrown and hand-built forms with sgraffito decoration.
The designer furniture maker Jonathan Oddy is showing two cabinets on legs, an upholstered armchair and some smaller keepsake and jewellery boxes.
There are three guest jewellers.
Duncan Hill, from Hereford, is a founder member of the Alloy Group and works primarily in silver embellished with 18ct yellow gold detail and semi-precious stones.
Clare Collinson also works in silver using processes such as reticulation to texture each piece of jewellery.
Emma Wells, from Hayle in Cornwall, produces fused glass work reminiscent of antique textiles.
Her work includes pendants, ear rings and chokers.
The exhibition runs until August 10 and also features work by previous members.
