A MAN was caught drink driving following an argument with his wife, a court heard.

Jamie Bernard Price, 28, of Burghill, Hereford, was found asleep in his Audi A4 in a carpark off the A480 after police spotted his headlights on.

He pleaded guilty at Hereford Magistrates Court last week to drink driving.

Amy Davies, prosecuting, said that about 3am on October 27, police noticed the car whilst driving past the carpark.

"The male in the driver's seat was asleep and it took police sometime to wake him up," said Mrs Davies.

As they approached the driver's door he had a phone in his hand and the dashboard was on.

Price told police that following an argument with his wife he had drove along the link road between Tillington and the A480 to the carpark.

His speech was slurred and he smelt of intoxicants.

Price gave a reading of 43 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres, the legal limit is 35.

On interview Price said that he had drank three pints and drove the vehicle to the carpark where he intended to sleep.

Emma Thorne, mitigating, said that Price had been out for a meal and got a lift home before falling asleep on the sofa. He had then awoke and had an argument with his wife before leaving the property.

"The GP advised him that when he has an argument the best thing to do is to leave and that's what he did, but unfortunately he had alcohol that evening," said Mrs Thorne.

"He is very remorseful."

Price was disqualified from driving for 12 months- which could be reduced by three months on completion of a drink driving rehabilitation course.

He was also ordered to pay a £200 fine, £135 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
