READERS have been sending photos in of the unusually red sun this morning.

The sky has also turned a strange yellow hue.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "This is an interesting phenomena that is a result of the movement of ex-Ophelia is the colour of the sky and the sun this morning, and dust on cars.

"The same southerly winds that have brought us the current warmth have also drawn dust from the Sahara to our latitudes and the dust scatters the blue light from the sun, letting more red light through much as at sunrise or sunset."

Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued a warning of very windy weather as the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia hit the UK.

There is a Yellow Warning for Herefordshire between 10am and midnight tonight.

The Met Office said power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs could happen.

Winds could reach between 55 to 65mph this evening.

Police said extra care should be taken by those driving high-sided vehicles, caravans and articulated lorries as they are at significant risk.
