A CARE company is embarking on a mission to make Herefordshire a dementia-friendly county by holding a number of information sessions.

One of the events is lined up for the Hub at Peterchurch on September 20 from 10am to 11am, and will provide an ideal opportunity for people to learn a bit more about this growing condition and to learn about ways they can help those living with dementia.

Sandra Taylor, of Hereford-based care company, Kemble at Home, said it was one of the ways the company engaged with the community on a range of issues relating to care.

"A few of us have received training from the Alzheimer’s Society and have become dementia champions, enabling us to hold Dementia Friends Information Sessions," she said.

“The current predictions are that dementia will grow, so by raising awareness, we are creating a friendlier environment for those affected.

“Being a Dementia Friend enables us to understand better what those problems are and what help is needed in making life as good as possible for those living with the condition and their families."

The Hub hosts a range of events aimed at helping the community, she added, and it has really made a major difference to the lives of people in the Peterchurch area.

“They host weekly activities, have a cafe and library, have regular community events along with an information point on site which is staffed by well-trained volunteers who are eager to help,” she said.
