LAND in Hereford for a GP hub, a multi storey car park and a transport hub will be considered in feasibility studies.

Funding of £285,000 has been provided by the government to improve community infrastructure and deliver economic growth.

Herefordshire Council's cabinet has agreed to use the money to carry out assessments on land considered for development, surrounding the forthcoming city link road which will run from Commerical Road to Edgar Street.

The studies will looked at land at Merton Meadow car park for a joint services hub including the council, police and fire service; land adjacent to Hereford railway station for a GP hub (bringing numerous surgeries together) and also a transport hub.

Land at either Station Approach or the Bus Station is being looked as for use as key worker/student accommodation or a multi storey car park.

Cllr Harry Bramer, cabinet member for contracts and assets, said: "This vision is an exciting project. I hope that we will find many opportunities to work with our partners."

The £285,000 is the first part of funding from a £425,000 pot.

Cllr Bob Matthews, leader of the Independents, said: "The bus station- I have great concern about that being used for anything other than a multi storey car park. The hospital has to be extended and the only place to extend is on their carpark. We need to address car parking issues in that part of the city."

Cllr Bramer said: "The work to do is a feasibility study. We have got to spend the money to see what the right things and the wrong things to do are."

The work is part of One Public Estate (OPE), which is a national programme run by the Cabinet Office Government Property Unit and the Local Government Association. It provides practical and technical support and funding to councils to deliver ambitious property focused programmes in collaboration with central government and other public sector partners.

One Herefordshire is a group of public sector organisations comprising Herefordshire Council, Herefordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Wye Valley Trust, West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service. The council is the lead authority and was accepted into the OPE programme in April.

The city link road is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
